Assistive Technology Findings
I found a lot of interesting things during my research of assistive technology; things that I have never even heard of or thought of. The most interesting thing was probably the hearing aid that was a telephone. Someone could call and it would send directly to their hearing aid so that they didn’t have to pick up a phone or anything. What was most surprising to me was how affordable adaptable cars were. A person on disability can afford one without a problem.
The most beneficial technology that I saw was probably the special communication devices used for children who can’t speak to learn how to communicate. It greatly helped that person who possesses it because they can now communicate with friends and family when they need to. They also learned how to read and write.
If I had to use the technology that I researched, I would be thankful. I would be glad that I own it. With the phones, at home I could talk to my grandparents or anyone I needed to speak to. With the car, I would be able to go to school more efficiently and faster, and with the new communication devices, I would be able to answer questions in school and learn faster than I would if I didn’t have that technology.
I think people that use these assistive technologies are most likely avoided. I’m sure that people who use these technologies don’t have many friends because people are uncomfortable around people with disabilities, mainly because they don’t understand and they don’t know how to act around them.
